The Mallards failed to string together a five-game winning streak Sunday, tying Madison’s longest streak set June 9 with four games.

La Crosse strung together two, five-run innings in the second and fourth innings to stomp over the Mallards’ 1-0 lead, gained in the first.

Jordan Comadena led off the game with a hit-by-pitch and crossed home for the first run of the game. After Brandon Wikoff grounded out to first, Comadena reached second and later scored on a Randy Molina single.

Though the momentum appeared on Madison’s side, the Loggers loaded the bases in the bottom of the second, and Brett Jackson took Scott Heitshusen (Pictured, L, 4-4) long for a grand slam into right field. After sending another runner home, La Crosse put together another five runs in the fourth on five hits and one Mallards error.

During the inning, Heitshusen (3.1 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 2 BB, 3 SO) took a comebacker off his shoulder and had to be removed from the game. Craig Meier (3.2 IP, 2H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 SO) pitched through the eighth inning before Nathan Kafka closed out the ninth.

After the fourth, Madison shutout the Loggers and attempted to put together a comeback. The lead was too big, however, and the Mallards’ four additional runs only gave them half of La Crosse’s production.

The game closed out 10-5, which dropped the Mallards’ second-half record to 6-8, while improving La Crosse to 4-10.

Monday, the Mallards return to the Duck Pond to host St. Cloud for a two-game split set for 7:05 p.m.
