The top four hitters in the Mallards lineup caught fire Monday night at the Duck pond, tallying three hits apiece to lead the Madison over St. Cloud in a 12-5 score fest.
With the Mallards scoring in each of the first three innings, they built up enough momentum to hold off the visiting River Bats, who were held to only five runs on 12 hits. Madison celebrated its highest hit total of the year with 18 knocks, including three from Jordan Comadena, Brandon Wikoff, Randy Molina and Evan LeBlanc.
Jim Sajewich (W, 1-3) pitched his first win and started his third game of the year. Sajewich (pictured), known for his appearances out of the bullpen, threw six full innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (one earned). He also matched his season high in strikeouts with five.
Eight Mallards batters recorded a hit in the game, and Daniel Webb marked the fifth player to connect on multiple hits.
On a tough night to pick, LeBlanc was selected as the Player of the Night. He finished with three hits, two RBIs and a pair of runs. Wikoff was a close second with three hits, two runs and an RBI.
With the win, the Mallards caught up with the Waterloo Bucks (7-8), who dropped an interdivisional game to Brainerd.
Michael Hutts (3-2) is the scheduled pitcher for the series finale. The first pitch is expected to take place at 7:05 p.m.
