With 17 games left in the regular season, the Mallards find themselves in the thick of the playoff race, thanks to boasting arguably the Northwoods League’s hottest offense at the moment. Just four and a half games back of the first place Eau Claire Express, the Mallards (9-8) recent turnaround is a welcomed sight for a squad that had sky-high expectations going into the 2007 season. Since baseball is a game of numbers, we’ve decided to uncover key statistics that have contributed to the team’s recent success.

The Mallards have won eight of its last 10 games and are hitting a blistering .347 that includes 119 hits and 91 runs during that stretch. The team scored at least 10 runs five times, and recorded more than 10 hits in eight games.

On an individual level, four players swung an extremely hot bat during the past 10 games; Jordan Comadena, .350 (14 for 40), 10 RBI’s; Bobby Hubbard, .457 (16 for 35), 9 RBI’s; Randy Molina, .378 (17 for 45), 11 RBI’s; Brandon Wikoff, .474 (18 for 38), 7 RBI’s.

Comadena has a 33 game consecutive on-base streak dating back to June 18 and Wikoff has an 11 game hitting streak since July 15.

The team’s .289 batting average in July is tops in the NWL.

The Mallards conclude a very brief two-game road trip tonight versus the Mankato Moondogs at 7:05 p.m. All game action can be heard on Madison’s Sports Radio 100.5 FM.
