In what could possibly be the Mallards’ most memorable night in 2007, Madison set a coveted Northwoods League record & reached a franchise milestone. With the win, Madison broke Green Bay’s record for most consecutive wins with 16. Win No. 16 came in blowout fashion, as the Mallards tamed the Huskies 10-2 in a start to finish performance. The Ducks also welcomed their 1-millionth fan to the “Duck Pond” since the opening night in 2001.
The top six guys in the Mallards’ lineup were once again top class, and all six recorded a hit in the game, including Randy Molina (pictured), who turned in a 4-for-4 night with two doubles, two runs scores and a pair of RBIs. For his performance, Molina was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night. He is the sixth different Mallard to hold that distinction this season.
The pitching staff was just as solid. Starter Eryk McConnell (W, 5-2), who has won his last three starts, went seven innings, allowing just five hits and two runs. Dan Sorce, who has not seen action since Aug. 3 came in for the final two innings and kept the sheet clean, refusing a hit in the game for the Mallards’ fourth-consecutive game that the opponent did not score against the Ducks’ bullpen.
As for the other record, 10-year-old John Olsen of Elkhorn became the Mallards’ 1-millionth fan and was surprised with confetti and a commemorative Mallards jersey with the number 1 million across the back. The Mallards front office plans to present the young fan a statue of his likeness, which will stand near the front gate of the stadium.
