Madison, WI – April 22, 2008. The Mallards are very excited to announce the team will host the 2008 Northwoods League All-Star Event on July 13 & 14 at the “Duck Pond!” The two-day event will begin on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with an interactive Fan Fest that will include autograph sessions, a kids home run derby, a skills seminar, & an unveiling of the World’s Largest Bratwurst! The festivities will culminate on Monday with the NWL All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m., broadcast nationally on ESPNU! The Mallards held a press conference Tuesday afternoon releasing details about the event(Pictured is Madison Mayor David Cieslewicz & Mallards General Manager Vern Stenman).The Mallards open their eighth season on Thursday, May 29 at 7:05 p.m. against the La Crosse Loggers.
2008 Northwoods League All-Star Festivities Schedule
Fan Fest – Sunday, July 13, 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Autograph Sessions: All Northwoods League All-Stars will be available for autographs throughout Fan Fest.
Call of the Game: Kids will have the opportunity to become play-by-play announcers for a day by recording their voices in-sync with video of famous baseball plays. Good Karma Broadcasting will email all participants MP3 files of their broadcasts.
Kids Home Run Derby: A makeshift wall will be set up giving kids the chance to go yard!
Bouncehouse/Speed Pitch: Customary at Mallards games, the “Big Maynard” bouncehouse and speed pitch will be free to all kids!
Skills Seminar: Mallards head coach C.J. Thieleke & assistants will provide a baseball seminar for young ballplayers looking to gain a competitive edge.
World’s Largest Bratwurst: Jerry Stoddard, owner of Stoddard’s Meat Market, will cook & display the World’s Largest Bratwurst!
4:30 p.m. – 6:05 p.m.
NWL Home Run Derby: Participants from the North & South Divisions try to out-slug each other in a classic game of home run derby!
6:05 p.m.
All-American Challenge: Home Talent League All-Stars will play the U.S. Military All-Star team in a 7-inning game.
2008 Northwoods League All-Star Game, July 14 @ 7:05 p.m.
North vs. South: The league’s 13th All-Star Game will feature some of the nation’s brightest collegiate prospects as the North Division battles the South. Since the league switched to a North/South format in 1997, the North Division holds a 7-3 advantage. (In 2001, the Northwoods League All-Stars defeated Team USA, 1-0)
