Madison, WI – June 23, 2008. The Madison Mallards will be well represented in Omaha, Neb. during tonight’s final round of the College World Series pitting Georgia versus Fresno State. Junior pitchers Stephen Dodson and Jason Leaver of Georgia played for the Mallards in 2006 while freshman outfielder Trent Soares and sophomore infielder Alan Ahmady of Fresno State are slated to join the team after the tournament. Game one will air tonight at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN2, game two tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN, and game three (if necessary) on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN.

In 2006 Dodson was especially filthy as a reliever for the Mallards, posting a 2-1 record and 1.09 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched, while only allowing four walks. In the same year, Leaver never let up an earned run in 13.1 innings while striking out 19 batters.

Dodson is 5-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 94.2 innings pitched that includes 15 starts for the Georgia Bulldogs. In the Regionals & Super Regionals, he has allowed eight earned runs in 11.2 innings. Leaver has yet to pitch in the post-season but did post a 2-0 record and 4.15 ERA in 8.2 innings during the regular season.

Ahmady has had a season for the ages at Fresno State. In 75 games he is hitting .386 with a team-high 90 RBIs that includes 16 doubles and 13 home runs. He has an on-base percentage of .473. In the Regionals & Super Regionals, Ahmady is hitting .378 (14 for 37) with 10 RBIs, eight runs scored, and one home run. Meanwhile, teammate Soares has an RBI and run scored in five pinch hit appearances during the post-season.

After sweeping the first-place Wisconsin Woodchucks this past weekend, the Mallards now stand only three games back with 11 games to go in the first half of the season. The team will play its first road game since June 7 in a match-up across the Canadian border against the Thunder Bay Border Cats Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. The game can be viewed live online by visiting livemallardsbaseball.com.
