Madison WI – May 7, 2009. Members from Johnny Cash’s former backing band, The Tennessee Three, are set to rock-out the “Duck Pond” on Friday, June 12, for you-guessed-it: Johnny Cash Night! Presented by Charter Communications the night will feature a pre-game concert on the field by the only band Cash chose to work with because their sound so closely resembled his own.
The band will also perform a concert after the game at the Essenhaus (514 E. Wilson St, Madison).
The first 1,000 persons aged 16 & over will receive a Shower Radio courtesy of Interstate Batteries.
The band began in the mid 1950’s as the Tennessee Two, consisting of Cash’s friends Luther Perkins on electric guitar and Marshall Grant on bass. Both were portrayed in the 2005 Oscar-nominated film biography of Johnny Cash, “Walk the Line.”
In 1960, drummer W.S. Holland joined the group, which was then renamed The Tennessee Three. Holland is credited as the first rock-‘n’-roll drummer, in the early 1950’s and had collaborated with Cash on some previous recordings.
