Madison, WI – June 5, 2009. The Mallard bats came alive once again last night as Harold Riggins (NC State) led a 12-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort, which included a 3-run homer in the third inning, en route to an 11-4 win over Waterloo. He finished the night with three runs scored and four RBI in leading Madison to its fifth win in a row, tying them with Eau Claire for the longest current win streak in the Northwoods League.

Cody Winiarski (1-0) threw a gem, allowing four runs (2 earned) while scattering five hits and striking out six Bucks over seven innings of work. He ran into trouble in the fifth, but got back on track, retiring the final seven batters he faced and needing only four pitches in sitting down the side in the seventh inning. The Mallards will go for six in a row when they take on St. Cloud at the “Duck Pond” tonight at 7:05 p.m.

The Mallards (6-2) are averaging 7.8 runs per game during their current win streak and are one game behind Eau Claire (7-1) for first place in the South Division. St. Cloud enters tonight on a two-game winning streak after sweeping North Division leader Alexandria with an 8-7 win last night. The Bats (3-5) are currently in fourth place in the North Division.

Madison’s Brad Allen (Elgin CC) will take the hill tonight seeking his first win of the year. The left hander suffered a 3-2 loss to Brainerd back on May 29, giving up three runs (2 earned) on eight hits while striking out four over 6.1 innings. Allen went 6-2 for Elgin Community College with a 3.83 ERA over 56.1 innings while helping the Spartans to a 38-18 record.
