Green Bay, WI – June 15, 2009. Four Mallards errors, including three by shortstop Jacob Esch (Georgia Tech), and no answer for Bullfrogs starting pitcher Brent Edinger (Lamburth University) paved the way for a 6-1 loss at Joannes Field Monday night, a day ahead of the team returning back to the “Duck Pond” to begin a two-game set Tuesday.
The Mallards were able to pound out six hits during the course of the game, including three by both leadoff man Kurtis Muller and the aforementioned Esch, but could only muster a single run when Jimmy Parque (St. John’s) singled in Muller in the third inning.
Madison’s starting pitcher Mark Ginther (Oklahoma State) took the loss (0-1) in his first start of the season after allowing only one earned run and three hits over 4 innings.
Meanwhile Edinger received the win (1-0) after throwing five innings and allowing one run on six hits.
Leading the charge for the Bullfrogs offense was left fielder John Semel (Chapman University) with two hits and two RBI, and center fielder Aaron Conway (Missouri State) with two hits and two runs scored. In all, four different Bullfrogs players recorded two hits on the night.
The loss could’ve been much more painful as the Eau Claire Express lost tonight at home versus the La Crosse Loggers 10-7, meaning the Mallards and Express are still tied for first place at 13-4 a piece. Eau Claire now travels to Rochester for a two-game set while the Mallards return home to the “Duck Pond” Tuesday to battle the last-place Waterloo Bucks.
Tuesday is The Office Night presented by Madison’s CW, along with Sports Impressions T-Shirt Night (first 1,250 fans). Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. To purchase tickets for Tuesday’s game, please click here or call us at 608.246.4277 today!
