Eau Claire, WI – June 26, 2009. A day after losing both games of a doubleheader, the Mallards look to get a game back from the Eau Claire Express as the two teams do battle again in a 6:35 p.m. affair tonight at Carson Park.

Madison has now lost five straight games and find themselves four games behind the Express for first place in the Northwoods League South Division with seven games left. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Hoping to salvage a win and gain some sort of momentum heading into this weekend’s series at the “Duck Pond” against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, the Mallards will send right-hander Alex Rivers (Santa Clara) to the mound tonight. Rivers is 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in seven innings this season. In his lone start on June 20, he faced the same Express team and allowed two earned runs in six innings, but was saddled with the loss.

The Express will counter with right-hander Gera Sanchez (New Mexico JC) who is 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings over three starts. He’s coming off a shaky performance on June 15 when he allowed six earned runs in four innings to pick up the loss.
