Last night’s Box Score
Madison, WI – June 27, 2009. The Mallards return home after beating Eau Claire, 3-2, in 12 innings on Friday night, their first win over the Express in four tries this season. It also snapped their 5-game road losing skid. They’ll take on Brainerd at 5:05 p.m. today with the TQ Diamonds “Diamond Dig” and big Rhythm & Booms fireworks show to follow.
Madison (17-11) received a good outing from Alex Rivers (Santa Clara) last night, who allowed just a run in six innings of work. The bullpen followed suit as Dan Burawa (St. John’s) threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief while Denny Clement (Texas A&M) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of hitless ball.
Joe De Pinto (USC) got the Mallards back in it in the eighth inning with a game-tying solo shot and Jimmy Parque (St. John’s) provided the go-ahead, two-out single that scored Harold Riggins (NC State) in the 12th inning to defeat the Express (18-6), 3-2. The Mallards sit three games behind Eau Claire in the South Division with only six games remaining in the first half.
Madison will send Matt Jansen (3-1; Purdue) to the mound to sport his slim 2.93 ERA against the Lunkers in the first game of a two-game set. Jansen hasn’t faced Brainerd yet this season, but both teams split a two-game series earlier this season in Minnesota.
