Last night’s Box Score

Madison, WI – June 28, 2009. The Mallards have won two straight games and are coming off a 19-run outburst in the opening game of the series against Brainerd last night. They’ll look for three in a row and a series sweep as they try to keep pace with first place Eau Claire who leads the South Division by three games.

Madison (18-11) received plenty of offense from Mark Ginther (Oklahoma State) and Harold Riggins (NC State) who combined to go 5-for-9 with three home runs, six runs scored and eight RBI. The Mallards, who fell in an 8-4 hole after the second inning, scored the final 15 runs of the game to pull off a 19-8 comeback victory over the Lunkers.

Following a sub-par performance by Matt Jansen (3-1; Purdue), the Mallard bullpen combined to go 7.1 innings, allowing just three hits while holding the Lunkers scoreless for the remainder of the ballgame. Ginther will make a spot start for the Mallards on Sunday as they try for the series sweep over Brainerd. The right-hander has yet to record a decision, but maintains a 1.23 ERA in three appearances.

He’ll face off against Brainerd (13-15) right-hander Taylor Babich (Rhodes College) who is 2-1 this year with a 3.32 ERA in four starts for the Lunkers. First pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m. at the “Duck Pond”.
