Madison, WI – July 11, 2009. Madison is looking to shake last night’s 6-3 loss to Alexandria when both teams meet in the final game of the series at 6:05 p.m. tonight at the “Duck Pond”. The Mallards took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning last night, but the Beetles scored five runs to steal a win away.

Alex Rivers (Santa Clara) had a strong outing spoiled in the defeat, taking a no decision after eight strong innings. He grew stronger as the game went on, having faced just one over the minimum in his final three innings of work. He scattered nine hits and struck out four while lowering his ERA to 2.00.

The Mallards (24-17 overall, 5-2 second half) scored their three runs in the fourth inning with the help of three errors by the opposition. Troy Channing (St. Mary’s) provided an RBI single while the other two runs scored on an error and a wild pitch.

Matt Jansen (Purdue) will be seeking his fifth win of the season as he takes a 4-1 record and a 3.34 ERA in tonight’s contest. He’ll take on Alexandria’s Matt Fyffe (Eastern Kentucky) who is 1-1 with a 1.64 ERA this season. The Beetles (25-16, 5-2) hold a 2-1 advantage in head-to-head matchups this year. They sit one-half game behind Rochester for first place in the North Division while the Mallards are now tied with La Crosse for first place in the South Division.

Saturday will be Emil’s Pizza Seat Cushion night (first 500 fans). Representatives from Emil’s Pizza will be handing out freshly cooked ‘za in random sections all night long! Stick around afterwards for a post-game Fireworks show!
