Last night’s Box Score

Madison, WI – July 18, 2009. The Mallards are eager to forget about their last series with Green Bay, in which they were swept with a 7-2 loss last night at the “Duck Pond,” and anxious to get back to their winning ways when they host Eau Claire in the first of a two-game series tonight.

Alex Rivers (Santa Clara) shined through the first four innings last night, but then fell apart in the fifth. He walked the bases loaded and gave up a two-out grand slam to Jacob House (Arkansas) that relinquished the lead and gave the Bullfrogs a 4-1 advantage.

Brashad Johnson (Des Moines Area CC) made his Mallard debut and delivered in his first at-bat with an RBI single to right. Joe Patterson (Texas A&M) would add another RBI single for the only other run.

Brent Ebinger (Lambuth) pitched five up-and-down innings, but prevailed with his third win of the season while striking out seven batters and walking just two.

Madison (27-21 overall, 8-6 second half) was outscored by the Bullfrogs (20-28, 6-8) by a combined, 16-3, in the two games. The leading home run-hitting team in the league went homerless and left 18 runners on base against Green Bay . They’ll now welcome in the first half champions Express, who make their first visit to the “Duck Pond”.

The Mallards will send left-hander Matt Jansen (Purdue) to the mound in search of moving into a tie for the league-lead in wins with six. He’s 5-1 with a 3.25 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched. Eau Claire will combat with Rudy Jaramillo (New Mexico). Jaramillo is 3-2 with a 1.85 ERA in 58.1 innings pitched.

Tonight will be Cricket Wireless Autographed Baseball Holder night (first 1,000 fans) and Country Finanacial Frisbee Night (first 500 kids, 14 & under). There will be pre and post-game music by MB3, presented by Budweiser. Also, stick around after the game for a mesmerizing fireworks show. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with the first pitch beginning at 6:05 p.m.
