Madison, WI – February 8, 2010. What do the Madison Mallards and Sunday’s Dr. Pepper Super Bowl commercial have in common? Mini Kiss, of course. In the latest chapter of zany promotions planned by the Mallards marketing staff each summer, the team has booked “Mini Kiss,” a tribute band of little people dressed like you-guessed-it–Kiss. The band is set to appear at the ballpark on Friday, August 6, sign autographs during the game, and perform a post-game concert at a location to be determined in the coming weeks.
Sunday’s commercial was played with two minutes remaining in the second quarter and featured the real former Kiss lead vocalist Gene Simmons promoting Dr. Pepper with a little “kiss” of cherry flavor. Mini Kiss was shown performing Kiss’ hit song, “Calling Dr. Love,” as members of the original band joined them on stage.
Since Sunday, the “Dr. Pepper Cherry Dr. Love – Little Kiss YouTube video had over 750,000 views.
Last summer the Mallards booked Johnny Cash’s original backing band, “The Tennessee Three,” who performed a special post-game concert at the Essen Haus.
