Madison, WI – March 18, 2010. The Mallards added an arm on Thursday by signing Grant Gordon, a freshman right-handed pitcher at Missouri State.
Through seven appearances this spring, Gordon leads the Bears with 27 strikeouts, over 19 innings of work. His ERA stands at 5.21.
A 6’0”, 165 pound pitcher from Salem, Missouri, Gordon had quite the senior season at Salem High School in posting a perfect 12-0 record and 0.38 ERA while striking out 152 in 74.1 innings. When he wasn’t pitching, Gordon started at shortstop and went on to hit .520 with 33 RBI and 22 extra-base hits, in leading the team to a 20-3 record and appearance in the state quarterfinals. For his body of work, he earned South Central Association Player of the Year honors.
Last summer Gordon pitched Midwest Nationals team and set team records for opponents average (.153) and hits allowed (3.7 / 7 IP), after going 5-1 with a 1.46 ERA.
