Madison, WI – May 10, 2010. The Mallards have signed Ryan Gorton and Brent Warren, a pair of sophomores from Oregon State University for the upcoming summer season.
Ryan Gorton, RHP, Sophomore, Oregon State. As a freshman Gorton appeared in 12 games, starting one, and posted a 2-0 record and 1.97 ERA while striking out 20 batters in 32 innings. Last summer he played in 23 games for Wenatchee of the West Coast League, starting in 21, and hit .289 with 10 RBI and 10 walks. Gorton also made 10 pitching appearances, all in relief, and went 1-1 with an unscathed 0.00 ERA.
This spring Gorton has posted a 3-2 record and 4.18 ERA on the mound while striking out 18 batters over 28 innings of work. He has appeared in 10 games while starting three. At the plate, Gorton is currently hitting .231 (3-for-13) with one double and six RBI over 11 games played.
Brent Warren, OF, Sophomore, Oregon State. As a freshman Warren saw action in nine games during the regular season, going 2-for-8 with two runs scored. In his best game, he went 1-for-1 with a double and three RBI against Gonzaga. Last summer Warren appeared in 46 games for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League, making 34 starts, and batted .315 with three doubles and three triples.
Warren was a 27th round selection in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics.
This spring he is hitting .235 (4-for-17) over 16 games, including four starts.
