Former Mallards Thriving in Baseball Careers

A number of former Mallards players have found on-field success at the professional level in both Major League Baseball, and with minor league affiliates.  Here are a few highlights of former Mallards in the pros.

Ryan Spilborghs

Spilborghs played with the Mallards in the summer of 2001 while attending the Univeristy of California – Santa Barbara.  He hit .331 with 20 RBIs while playing in 43 games.  In 2001 he was selected in the 7th round of the MLB draft by the Colorado Rockies.  On July 16, 2005 he made his major league debut against the Cincinnati Reds, starting in right field.  He made the Rockies full-time roster after spring training in 2008.  He has a career batting average of .272, with 42 home runs and 218 RBIs.

Matt Pagnozzi pagnozzigood

Pagnozzi was with the Mallards in 2002 when he committed just five errors in 40 starts at catcher while attending Central Arizona College. He was selected in the 8th round of the MLB Amateur draft in 2003 by the St. Louis Cardinals.  Pagnozzi made his major league debut on September 9, 2009as a pinch hitter.  He drew a walk in the at-bat.  In 2011 he appeared in 12 total big league games, seven with the Colorado Rockies, and five with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  In the 12 games he went 8-29, with a .276 batting average.  Pagnozzi is currently with the Pirates.

Brandon HavemanBrandon_Haveman

Haveman was a temporary player for the Mallards in 2008.  He hit .214 in ten games while attending Purdue University. He was selected in the 29th round of the 2009 MLB Amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners.  In three minor league seasons Haveman has hit .292, with 11 home runs and 62 RBIs.  He made it to AAA with the Tacoma Raiders this past summer.  Haveman is currently with the AA Jackson Generals.

Stephen Dodson

Dodson played with the Mallards in 2006 while attending the University of Georgia.  As a relief pitcher he made eight appearances and went 2-1 with a 1.09 ERA.  He was selected in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft by the Colorado Rockies.  He is currently with AA Tulsa of the Texas League and has accumulated a 20-5 record with a 3.73 ERA in his three years in the minors.

Brandon Wikoff wikoff

Wikoff played with the Mallards from 2007-2009 while attending the University of Illinois.  In his three seasons as a Mallards infielder, Wikoff played in 115 games, batted .316, scored 93 runs and had 39 RBIs.  Wikoff was selected in the 5th round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.  In three seasons in the minors he has hit .279 with 72 RBIs and 108 runs scored.  Wikoff is currently with AAA Oklahoma City of the Pacific Coast League.
