Green Bay, WI – June 18, 2012. Some sloppy play by the Mallards defense and Bullfrogs starting pitcher Christian Cecilio’s (San Francisco) best outing of the season gave the Green Bay Bullfrogs (11-9) a series opening 8-0 win over the Madison Mallards (9-11). The loss represents the third time this season that the Mallards have been shutout.

The Bullfrogs struck in the first inning and did not look back, scoring a run on a Nick Stein (Coe College) single to score Brooks Orton (Texas State) who led the inning off with a double.

Green Bay would do their damage to Mallards starter Matt LaMothe (Georgia State) in the third inning, scoring four runs on three hits to make the score 5-0.

Three insurance runs in the fifth and sixth inning off of LaMothe (2-2) and Mallards reliever Kyle Barbeck (Missouri) stretched the Bullfrogs lead to 8-0.

Offensively the Mallards were challenged all night, drawing five hits and three walks while striking out 10 times.

Cecilio (1-0) had by far his best outing of the season, throwing a season high 6.0 innings on the mound and allowing no runs. With the shutout Cecilio has dropped down to an impressive 0.90 ERA.

LaMothe had his toughest start of the season, giving up a season high six runs in 4.1 innings on the hill. One bright for the righty was his seven strikeouts on the night.

After tonight’s game the Mallard will wrap up there two game road trip to Green Bay with the second game of their three game series with the Bullfrogs.

The Mallards will return to the “Duck Pond” on Wednesday June 20th to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs. That night will be Oscar Mayer Appreciation Night at the ballpark, featuring Weiner dog races.
