Madison, WI – July 10, 2012. Mallards’ third baseman Jose Trevino (Oral Roberts) rejoined the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team after spending two weeks with the team as an alternate earlier this summer. Trevino will compete at the Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week event in The Netherlands from July 14-22.
Trevino participated in four exhibition games and the intra-squad Prospect Classic in Durham, N.C. While in North Carolina, Trevino recorded a grand slam with six RBI during the Prospect Classic victory on June 30. This stellar performance earned him an invitation to rejoin USA Baseball. Team USA begins one of the premiere events in amateur baseball on July 14 against Japan.
As a freshman at Oral Roberts University, Trevino batted .317 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI. Baseball America, Louisville Slugger, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named Trevino a Freshman All-American.
Last night’s game against the Green Bay Bullfrogs will be his last until his return from Team USA. The Corpus Christi, Texas native is expected to return to play with the Mallards on Thursday, July 26, as the Mallards battle the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in Wisconsin Rapids.
The 2012 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale for all Mallards home games!
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
