Madison, WI – July 13, 2012. The Madison Mallards are excited to announce that two players, right-fielder Tyler Marincov (North Florida) and left-handed pitcher Anthony Marzi (Connecticut), have been named to the 2012 Northwoods League All-Star Team. The two will play as part of the South Division’s team in the All-Star game, which is to be played at the “Duck Pond” on July 24th.

Marincov, a 6’3”, 220 pound sophomore out of Orlando, Florida came to the Mallards after a stellar year at the plate at North Florida. In his second season of collegiate baseball Marincov hit a team best .332 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs.

The right-handed power hitter continued his great year this summer with the Mallards. So far in 2012 Marincov is tied for first in the Northwoods League with 10 home runs, is eighth in the league with a .364 average, and is fourth in the league with 34 RBIs. He has also been a speedster on the base paths, his 14 stolen bases are second on the team.

On top of being the team leader in every triple-crown category, Marincov also set the new Mallards franchise record for home runs in a single season.

Marzi (2-0), a 6’1”, 170 pound sophomore from Berlin, Connecticut was the ace of a scrappy Connecticut pitching staff prior to coming to Madison. In his team leading 15 starts the lefty posted a 2.55 ERA and struck out 64 hitters.

Since joining the Mallards Marzi has been a quality addition to the team’s rotation. Through five starts he has compiled a 2.15 ERA and struck out 25 in 29.1 innings of work.
