Rochester’s Podratz Takes Home Derby Championship

Madison, WI – July 24, 2012. 23 home runs, 10 of which occurred in the final round, ensured North representative Trevor Podratz (Honkers) would make a lasting impression at the Northwoods League Homerun Derby presented by the Dane County Regional Airport. The impressive display of power at the “Duck Pond” was good enough to have Podratz named the champion of the annual derby.

Eight Northwoods League All-Stars went head-to-head to compete in the Home Run Derby prior to the All-Star Game.

In the first round, the four players were eliminated that included Michael Suiter (Huskies) with four homeruns, Richard Prigatano (Loggers) and John Michael Twichell (MoonDogs) with three homeruns, and Tyler Marincov (Mallards), with two.

In the second round, Kevin Kaczmarski (Bucks) and Alex Bacon (Rafters) gained an additional homer to reach with six blasts each. The impressive feat was not enough though, as both of them would be eliminated.

In the finals, Casey Gillaspie (Express) powered six extra home runs to accumulate a total of 14, but it was not enough to beat out Podratz’s incredible strength at the plate.

The Mallards return to action at the “Duck Pond” on Friday, July 27th against the Rafters. That night will be Presidential Bobble Election Night at the ballpark.

The 2012 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale for all Mallards home games!

The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League.  The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate League in North America.
