Madison, WI – August 6, 2012. The Madison Mallards (18-10, 34-29) look to settle the score with the Lakeshore Chinooks (15-13, 32-31) tonight as they play the second game of a five game home-and-away series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.

On Sunday the Mallards rallied in the fifth and sixth innings only to fall to the Chinooks by a final of 8-7. Trevor Foss (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) got off to a rough start allowing two runs to cross in the top of the first. Foss (3-8) settled down but only went five innings while giving up five runs.

Earning Northwoods League Player of the Night recognition was Mallards third baseman Nick Howard (Virginia). Howard went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. His double (12) and home run (6) kept the game within grasp for the Mallards.

Aiming to take the second game of the series is Mallards left-hander Daniel Gibson (Florida). In his last start, Gibson (3-3) took the loss as the La Crosse Loggers (17-11, 43-20) trounced the Mallards by a final of 10-0 on July 31st. Gibson has been dependable since his transition to the starting rotation, and he will look to decrease his already slim 3.34 ERA.

Taking the ball and making his 11th start for the Lakeshore Chinooks is left-hander Nick Soldano (North Park). Soldano (5-3) went seven strong innings in his last appearance against Battle Creek (9-19, 23-40) on July 31st. The lefty went 5.2 and 6.0 innings respectively with a combined 3.95 ERA in his last two outings at the “Duck Pond.”

Not Gonna Keep Us Down:

Despite being knocked out of play-off contention with last night’s loss, the Mallards look to finish the season on a high note.

More Records Fall:

Mallards first baseman Jeff Zimmerman (Northern Illinois) set the Mallards single season RBI record last night with his two run home run in the first inning. Zimmerman now has 49 RBIs this season. Right fielder Tyler Marincov (North Florida) also extended his own single season home run record by belting his 12th of the season in the 8th inning.
