Madison, WI – August 31, 2012.  National Recruiting website PerfectGame.org and Baseball America have named Derek Fisher (Virginia) the #1 Prospect in the Northwoods League from 2012.  Fisher hit .315 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs for the Mallards while appearing in 51 games.

Fisher, who will be a sophomore at Virginia this fall was drafted in 2011 out of high school in the 6th round by the Texas Rangers.  He decided to attend Virginia instead of signing with the Rangers.  In his freshman season at Virginia he hit seven home runs and 50 RBIs while being named a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and NCBWA.  

Other Mallards on the Perfect Game Top 75 List were Will Lamarche (LSU) at number nine, Taylor Gushue (Florida) at number 16, Justin Topa (Long Island) at number 19, Tyler Marincov (North Florida) at number 23, Jose Trevino (Oral Roberts) at number 29, Bobby Poyner (Florida) at number 37, Nicholas Howard (Virginia) at number 39, and Jeff Zimmermann (Northern Illinois) at number 50.

The Madison Mallards are members of the 16-team Northwoods League.  The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
