Madison, WI – February 19, 2013. The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of sophomore right-handed pitcher Jamie Nunn from Appalachian State University.
Nunn, a 6’2″, 210-pound sophomore from Winston-Salem, North Carolina will come to Madison after his second season playing for the Mountaineers. In his lone start in 2013, Nunn was dominant, pitching six innings, and striking out five while only allowing one earned run. He earned the win against #8 ranked North Carolina State.
As a freshman in 2012 Nunn appeared in 23 games including six starts. He finished with a 5-2 record, 4.24 ERA and struck out 45 batters in 46.2 innings pitched. After the season he was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and was also a member of the Southern Conference All-Freshman team.
Nunn pitched for the Thomasville Hi Toms of the Summer Collegiate Coastal Plains League in 2012. He posted a 2.04 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .183 batting average. He appeared in five games including one start.
Nunn starred at Mt. Tabor High School where he was a two-time All-Conference and All-County Honoree. He posted a 2.81 ERA as a senior and 1.70 ERA as a junior while also hitting .300 each season. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player as a junior and senior. He is majoring in chemistry at Appalachian State and plans to attend medical school.
The Mallards will host their season opener against the Eau Claire Express on May 29th at 7:05 pm at the “Duck Pond.” Single-game tickets will go on sale April 27th.
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season.
