Madison, WI – May 21, 2013. The Madison Mallards coaching staff is now complete after the addition of volunteer assistant coach Brad Gschwind.
Gschwind spent the 2013 season as an assistant at Xavier University. He was an assistant coach for the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League in 2012 and was also an undergraduate assistant at Miami (Ohio) University in the spring of 2012. He spent the summer of 2011 as an assistant coach for the Cincinnati Stream of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.
Gschwind attended Miami (Ohio) and was a four-year letterwinner for the Red Hawks as an infielder. He was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year three times while at Miami and in 2010 made just four errors in 195 chances. He hit .277 with five home runs and 101 RBIs while playing in 199 games during his career.
He played for the Stream in the summers of 2008-2010 and helped them win two tournament championships and one league championship while being named an All-Star in 2008 and 2009. He graduated from Miami (Ohio) in the spring of 2012 with a degree in Physical Education. Gschwind joins field manager Donnie Scott, hitting coach Thad Frame and pitching coach Nathan Kafka.
The Mallards will host their season opener against the Eau Claire Express on Wednesday, May 29th at 7:05 pm at the “Duck Pond.” Single-game tickets are on sale now!
The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season.
