Madison, WI – April 7, 2013.  The Madison Mallards are set to host the 1st Northwoods League Big League Dreams Showcase at the “Duck Pond” on Monday, July 29th.

The Big League Dreams Showcase will consist of a double-header featuring the top 100 players from the Northwoods League who will be selected with input from Major League Baseball Scouts.  The players will participate in a day of workouts in front of scouts which will be followed by the double-header.

“This game will provide a great opportunity for scouts to see amateur players with the best tool sets in the country compete against each other in a unique showcase,” said Minnesota Twins Scout Mark Wilson.  “Sometimes players that make an all-star team don’t necessarily have the best all-around tools, so this chance to see the best prospects is exciting for us.”

In 2012, 129 players from the Northwoods League were drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft. “One of the goals of the Northwoods League is to give its players as much exposure as we can to Major League scouts,” said Northwoods League President Dick Radatz Jr.  “This event will further that goal and I hope it will become a destination for baseball fans in years to come as the League continues to grow.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Northwoods League Foundation.  The Northwoods League Foundation utilizes the game of baseball to enrich the quality of life for children and families with an enduring and caring focus on Northwoods League communities.

This event is open to the public and single game tickets for this event will go on-sale on April 27th.  Purchasing a ticket will give a fan access to the entire event, including both games. Tickets will be sold in a similar manner to a Mallards home game.  Mallards season ticket holders and host families will receive free access to this event.  Game 1 will start at 4:05 pm, followed by Game 2 at 7:05 pm.  Gates for the event will open at 3:05 pm and hospitality areas including the Great Dane Duck Blind will open at 4:05 pm.  A list of teams participating in each game is below.

The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season.

The Mallards will host their season opener against the Eau Claire Express on May 29th at 7:05 pm at the “Duck Pond.” Single-game tickets will go on sale April 27th.
