Green Bay, WI — June 3, 2013. The Madison Mallards (2-3) dropped their second straight contest Monday night to the Green Bay Bullfrogs (4-1) by a score of 7-5.

Robert Youngdahl (Notre Dame) hit a three-run home run off Mallards reliever Kristian Calibuso (Eastern Michigan) in the bottom of the seventh with the score 3-2 in the Bullfrogs favor.

The Mallards would pull within one in the top of the eighth after loading the bases with nobody out against reliever Matt Freeman (St. Norbert). Catcher Mike Fitzgerald (Indiana State) walked to bring in a run, shortstop Mike Reuvekamp (California) grounded out to second to make it 6-4, and Bullfrogs reliever Johnathon Tripp (Texas Tech) threw a wild pitch to score one more to pull the Mallards within one going into the bottom of the eighth.

Bullfrogs left fielder Boomer White (TCU) led off the inning with a double off the left field wall and third baseman JD Crowe (Auburn) knocked him in during the next at-bat to give the Bullfrogs an insurance run.

Mallards leadoff hitter Tony Cheky (Michigan State) led off the top of the ninth with a walk but never reached second, giving reliever Travis Duke (Texas) the save.

Luke Staub (George Washington) started for the Mallards and went five innings and gave up three runs—one earned—on five hits while being tagged with the loss. He struck out six and walked only one before being relieved by Jordan Mills (St. Mary’s). Mills had a quick sixth inning but left the seventh with runners on the corners before handing it over to Calibuso, who would allow the home run to the first batter he faced.

Kevin Nutley (St. Norbert) started on the hill for the Bullfrogs and lasted six innings while allowing only two runs—one earned—on four hits to pick up the win.

The Mallards scored their first two runs in the first and second innings. Second baseman Eric Cheray (Missouri State) knocked in Cheky—who led off the inning with a walk—on a fielder’s choice in the first to get on the board. Reuvekamp got to third base after Nutley threw a pickoff attempt into right field with one out in the second before scoring on a fielder’s choice.

Fitzgerald led the Mallards offensively with a pair of hits and an RBI. He was the lone Mallard with multiple hits.

The Bullfrogs were led by Youngdahl’s three RBIs. Right fielder Mitchell Ghelfi (UW-Milwaukee) and center fielder Jack Parenty (Stony Brook) each racked up two RBIs.

The Mallards return to the “Duck Pond” for a 7:05 pm game against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Tuesday. Tuesday night is also Maynard’s Birthday Party! Fans are encouraged to bring a toy for Maynard to donate to charity. Spectrum Brands Night will also be held during the game.

The 2013 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale now!

The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America. In 2013, the Northwoods League will celebrate its 20th season.
