Wisconsin Rapids, WI — June 13, 2013. The Madison Mallards (7-6) look to win their fourth game out of their last five Thursday night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (5-9) at Witter Field.
The first game of a two-game series between the two teams was postponed Wednesday night due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The rescheduled date is slated for Monday, June 24th at 7:05 pm.
Prior to Wednesday’s postponement, the Mallards won three out of four games during a road trip that included games against the Eau Claire Express and the Lakeshore Chinooks. The Mallards swept the Express and nearly did the same against the Chinooks but lost 2-1 Tuesday evening.
The Mallards will be sending Cody Peterson (Madison College) to the mound tonight. Peterson, a 6’5,” 185-pound sophomore, will be making his first start for the Mallards and second appearance overall. He pitched an inning of relief on June 9th in the Mallards 9-1 win over the Eau Claire Express and allowed a hit and a walk but didn’t allow a run. He went 5-4 with an ERA of just 1.91 this past spring with the Wolfpack.
Peterson will be squaring off against Justin Peters (Texas), who was originally on a temporary contract earlier this year with the Mallards and made three appearances, all of which were in relief. In 6.1 innings pitched with the Mallards, Peters allowed three earned runs on three hits and had an ERA of 4.26.
“Duck Pond” Overflowing
The “Duck Pond” has seen no shortage of rain this season, as two games have been shortened by rain and two more have been postponed. The Mallards won 4-2 on opening night against the Eau Claire Express, but the rain cut the game short after seven innings. The teams got in an inning and a half a day later, but the rain forced another postponement. The Mallards had another rain-shortened game against the Rafters on June 4th, when the Mallards won 14-6 but the game was called after seven and a half innings.
Up Next:
After Thursday night’s game, the Mallards will travel to Green Bay for a 7:05 pm start on Friday. The Mallards will then head back to the “Duck Pond” Saturday for a 6:05 pm game against the Bullfrogs. The Dentistry for Madison Turn Back the Clock Night with Dr. Jay Hazen will take place that night. There will also be a Muskies Hat Giveaway and Budweiser will provide post-game fireworks.
