Mequon, WI — July 12, 2013. The Madison Mallards (8-3, 29-15) hit two triples within the first four at-bats in a three-run first inning against the Lakeshore Chinooks (7-3, 28-16) Friday night and went on to win 7-1.

The win was the second of the night for the Mallards, as they continued a game that was previously suspended after 16 innings from June 22nd earlier in the night. The Mallards came out on top 5-4 in the 21-inning contest.

Tate Matheny (Missouri State) and Drew Weeks (North Florida) got things rolling with two three-baggers in the top of the first. Sandwiched between these triples was a John LaPrise (Virginia) single and a Joe McCarthy (Virginia) walk.

McCarthy added his second home run over the last three games with a two-run shot in the fourth while the Mallards other runs came in the third and sixth innings.

Jeff Zahn (Indiana State) knocked home Weeks in the third with a base hit while Weeks added another RBI on a fielder’s choice in the sixth.

Taylore Cherry (North Carolina) earned his first victory in a Mallards uniform by going five innings and allowing just one run (earned) on five hits. He walked four and struck out four.

Corey Fischer (Madison College) pitched the rest of the game for the Mallards and allowed just two hits over his four innings. He walked a pair of Chinooks batters.
