Madison, WI – November 25, 2013. The Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League have announced its schedule for the 2014 season. For the first time the Northwoods League will play a 72-game inter-divisional schedule. Previously the Northwoods League played just a 70-game schedule.
The Mallards will open their season at home defending the NWL Championship for the first four games on May 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th at Warner Park, aka “The Duck Pond.” The Mallards play 19 home games in May/June, 14 in July, and three in August. This summer’s Mallards schedule features 17 games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
The first half of the season will be complete at the end of play on Monday, June 30th, with the second half beginning on Wednesday, July 2nd after an off day on Monday, July 1st.. The first and second half division winners from both the North and South will meet in a best-of-three Divisional Playoff Series on August 11 thru 13. The North and South Division Champions will then meet in a best-of-three series for the Summer Collegiate World Series on August 14 thru 16.
The Mallards will play a split-double header on both June 30th and July 30th, against the La Crosse Loggers. On June 30th the Mallards will host the Loggers at the "Duck Pond" at 12:05 pm. At the completion of that game, both teams will head to La Crosse for a second game, starting at 7:05 pm. On July 30th, the first game will start in La Crosse at 7:05 pm, followed by the second game in Madison at 7:05 pm.
For the second consecutive year, the Mallards will host the Northwoods League Big League Dreams game on August 5th. This exhibition double header will feature the Top 100 players in the Northwoods League. This players will be voted by and selected by Major League Baseball scouts. Game One is scheduled for 4:05 pm, with Game Two at 7:35 pm.
With the addition of the expansion Kenosha Kingfish and Kalamazoo Growlers to the South Division, there will be realignment within the divisions. The Eau Claire Express, have joined Ontario’s Thunder Bay Border Cats, Waterloo Bucks and the six Minnesota franchises in the North Division. In addition to the Mallards, the South Division will feature the Lakeshore Chinooks, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, the Wisconsin Woodchucks, the Green Bay Bullfrogs, the LaCrosse Loggers, the Kingfish, the Growlers and the Battle Creek Bombers.
