Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards have announced the signing of right-handed pitchers Tyler Buffett from Oklahoma State University, Sterling Sharp from Eastern Michigan University, and Andrew Buckley from the University of California.
Buffett, a 6’1”, 196-pound, right-handed pitcher from Oklahoma State University will join the Mallards after his freshman season with the Cowboys. So far, in 2014 he is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA. He has appeared in 11 games, including seven starts.
Buffett is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended Albuquerque Academy. He was named to the 2013 All-West Region second team by Perfect Game and was a 2012 Perfect Game Underclassmen All-American third team selection. He was an all-state performer as a junior and led the team to a state runner-up finish in 2011.
Sharp, a 6’4”, 170-pound freshman right-handed pitcher from Eastern Michigan University will come to Madison following his first season in college. He has made 14 appearances, including seven starts and is 1-6 with a 4.59 ERA.
Sharp is originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan and starred at North Farmington High School. He was drafted in the 30th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves following his prep career. His senior year he was the seventh best player in Michigan in rankings by Prep Baseball Report. He posted a perfect 7-0 record with a 1.90 ERA and issued just seven walks that season. He went 7-2 with a 1.68 ERA as a sophomore.
Buckley, a 6’1”, 220-pound freshman right-handed pitcher from the University of California will join the Mallards after his first season in Berkley. He has appeared in eight games this spring and pitched 11.1 innings.
He starred at De La Salle High School in Concord, California. As a junior he went 5-2 with a 1.71 ERA and 53 strikeouts, including two complete games. He allowed only five extra base hits and held his opponents to a .187 batting average.
