Mequon, WI – June 16, 2014. The Madison Mallards (12-8) lost in the first game of their doubleheader today at Kapco Park against the Lakeshore Chinooks (13-7) by a score of 5-4.
Chinook reliever Sterling Koerner (Florida Gulf Coast) pitched 3.2 shutout innings in the win, giving up two hits while striking out three.
The Mallards scored two runs in the first inning when designated hitter Joe Dudek (North Carolina) drove in a run and right fielder Brian Rodemoyer (Illinois State) recorded one of his two RBI on a sacrifice fly.
A two run homer by Brett Sidall (Canisius) put the Chinooks up two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Mallards added one run in the seventh to put the score at 5-4 after an Alonso solo shot to left, which was his third home run in the past three games.
In game two of the doubleheader Sterling Sharp (Eastern Michigan) will face Joe Pavlovich (UW-Oshkosh). Sharp will look for his third win of the year.
The Mallards return home tomorrow to begin a three game home stand against the Chinooks at 7:05 pm. Tuesday night is Superhero Night, and kids 12 and under in costume get a free standing room only ticket. It is also Rayovac Night with a Rayovac Giveaway.
