(July 7) – Continuing their stretch of five consecutive road games in as many days, field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (3-2, 23-17) on Tuesday will travel to Bill Taunton Stadium to open up a key two-game series with the first-half North Division champion Willmar Stingers (4-2, 27-13). Comprehensive play-by-play coverage of tonight’s contest, which is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. CT, will be provided by 100.5 FM ESPN Madison.

On Monday, the Mallards came out on the short end of a 5-4 score in the finale of their two-game road tilt with the Alexandria Blue Anchors (4-2, 16-25). Scott Tyler (Ball State) contributed with two doubles and three runs batted on his way to a 3-for-5 batting line in the losing effort, while Charlie Cody (Virginia) went 2-for-4 with his first RBI of the season. Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) received the loss on the mound, conceding four runs in just two innings of work.

Tuesday’s series opener in Willmar will see Westin Wuethrich (Madison College) tab his fifth start of the season for the Mallards. Wuethrich, a 6-foot-2 right-hander from Greenwood, Wis., enters tonight’s contest on the heels of an uneven  July 1 performance against Kalamazoo in which he allowed four runs in two innings of work. Overall, he is 1-1 with a 2.79 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio across his first five games (19.1 IP) of the 2015 season with Madison.

  • Multi-Hit Streak Continues – The Mallards received tremendous offensive production on Monday from Scott Tyler, who with three hits extended his current multi-hit streak to four consecutive games to begin the second half of the season, during which he has gone 9-for-17 (.529) with six runs batted in and six extra-base hits.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Thursday, July 9 at 7:05 p.m. against the Kenosha Kingfish. Thursday’s game will feature a Motorcycle Maynard Bobblehead Giveaway presented by WKOW-TV at the front gates of the stadium while supplies last and a pre-game skydiving and tandem skydive giveaway presented by Great Lakes Skydiving.
