Madison, WI – August 5th, 2016. The Mallards (16-11, 39-24) bested the Kenosha Kingfish (6-21, 22-41) in game one of the doubleheader on Friday, prevailing by a score of 8-2.
Mike Byrne (Florida) picked up the win in the game, pitching what was undoubtedly one of the Mallards best games of the summer. Byrne set down 14 Kingfish via the strikeout in his six innings of work, more than any other Mallards pitcher this season. The win improves Byrne to 2-1 on the year.
Charlie Hecht (Georgia College) took the loss for Kenosha, allowing six runs (five earned) in 5.1 frames.
The Madison offense continued to swing hot bats, receiving two-hit nights from Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte), Nate Palace (Valparaiso) and Josh Stowers (Louisville), with Stowers contributing three RBIs to his line. The biggest blow of the contest came from Bryce Carter (Stanford), who delivered a two-out, two-RBI double in the fourth.
Game two of the doubleheader will get underway at 7:40 from the Duck Pond at Warner Park.
