Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards (4-6) bats were dominant last night in a 19-5 win over the Rockford Rivets (5-5). Mallards designated hitter Brady Pfaadt (Bellarmine) had a great game at the plate as he drove in five runs, three coming off a three-run bomb in the eighth inning. His performance earned him Northwoods League Player of the Night honors. Mallards hitters were seeing the ball well all evening as three Mallards tallied three hits and three had multiple RBI.
Tonight, the Mallards will look to continue the offensive outburst as they welcome the Wisconsin Woodchucks (4-6) to Warner Park. The Woodchucks head to Madison for a two-game set after winning a pair at home against the Chinooks. Following last night’s performance at the plate, the Mallards are now batting .260 this season. Madison looks to have the upper hand on the Woodchucks as Wisconsin has managed to hit only .217 this year.
Mallards centerfielder Doran Turchin (Illinois) drove in another run last night, bumping his season total up to 15, which leads the NWL. Turchin is now batting .529 in 17 at bats with runners on base. Fellow Mallard Cade Bunnell (Madison College) is close behind Turchin’s RBI total with 11 after knocking in three last night.
Scheduled to start on the mound for the Mallards tonight is Luke Matheny (Oklahoma State). Matheny picked up a win in his last start as he worked five impressive innings, holding the Green Bay Bullfrogs scoreless. Matheny struck out four and gave up just one hit in the Mallards 20-1 rout.
First pitch is set for 7:05 this evening at Warner Park. The game will feature Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat presented by Maple Leaf Landscaping. Gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 PM.
