The Madison Mallards (5-8) fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (12-1) on Sunday afternoon at Witter Field by a final score of 7-2. The win was the tenth in a row for the defending Northwoods League champions Rafters, a franchise record.

After a one hour rain delay, the Rafters got on the board first thanks to a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. But the Mallards responded in the top of the third when Jalen Harrison (Virginia) scored on a double by Angel Camacho (Jacksonville). Camacho would finish the day 3 for 4 with two doubles, both to left field.

The Mallards only other run came in the top of the fourth. Brock Weimer (SIUE) reached on a walk and then advanced to third on an error followed by a wild pitch. Harrison would pick up the RBI on a sacrifice fly that plated Weimer.

Mallards starting pitcher Ryan Schmitt (Illinois) was solid in his third appearance of the season, keeping the red-hot Rafters at bay through 4.2 innings. Schmitt only allowed two hits and two earned runs before handing the ball off to the Mallards bull pen. The game would remain close until the seventh inning, when the Rafters plated four runs to secure the victory.

The Mallards will look to even the series tomorrow night as they will face the Rafters in the series finale. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM from Witter Field. To listen live to all Mallards games, tune into The Zone 106.7 FM or 1670 AM. The Mallards return home on Thursday, June 15th.
