Madison, Wis. – Last night, the Madison Mallards (6-9) offense broke out to beat the Rockford Rivets (9-7) 11-3. Madison tallied 16 hits total and all but one Mallard tallied a base knock.
Mallards shortstop Cole Daily (Notre Dame) had a phenomenal game as he had a double, three singles, and a walk. Daily’s batting average now sits at .344, good for second place on the team. Madison left fielder Kian O’Brien (Kent State) tallied three doubles and drove in a pair of runs. The Mallards had a strong start on the mound from lefty Matt Horkey (UNC-Charlotte) who gave up three runs which were all unearned. Mitch Vogrin (Illinois State), Rafi Vazquez (Coastal Carolina), and Tiegen Jones (Fresno State) held off the Rockford hitters as the bullpen allowed only one hit through four innings.
Tonight, the Mallards return to the Duck Pond to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs (6-9). The Mallards are 1-1 this season against the Bullfrogs, the win came in a 20-1 thrashing at Warner Park on June 3rd. This evening, Madison’s offense will look to continue their success from the recent two-game series in Rockford as they scored a combined 17 runs.
Scheduled to take the bump for the Mallards is starting pitcher Matt McCarty (Louisville). McCarty has made three starts this season, tossing 6.1 innings and striking out six. McCarty will look to follow Horkey’s (UNC-Charlotte) quality outing last night. Horkey earned the win against the Rivets, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing zero earned runs.
The Mallards host the Green Bay Bullfrogs tonight at Warner Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and gates are set to open at 5:30 PM. Tonight’s game features Bacon Appreciation Night.
