After last night’s rainout in Kenosha, the Madison Mallards (18-14) will play two at Simmons Field tonight against the Kingfish (20-12). Both games are scheduled for seven innings instead of the regular nine. Madison has won eight of their last ten games, including a 7-6 victory over the Kingfish in Madison on Saturday night.
The Mallards offense has been clicking during the hot streak as Mallards batters have batted .279 over the last five games. Madison second baseman Jake Snider (Louisville) has been huge in the Mallards two-spot as he is batting .474 through his first five games. He has tallied nine hits and has scored nine runs so far with the Mallards.
Recently, Doran Turchin (Illinois) and Jeffery Mitchell Jr. (California) have been key run producers in the middle of the Mallards lineup. Mitchell Jr. is batting .350 and has driven in seven runs over his last 20 at bats. Turchin has knocked in eight and hit two home runs over the same span.
Set to start the first game for the Mallards tonight is righty Simon Rosenblum-Larson. The Harvard hurler has arguably been the Mallards best starter this season. Through five starts, Rosenblum-Larson has pitched 27.1 innings and owns a 1.31 ERA. He has struck out 28 batters while walking only seven. Rosenblum-Larson has yet to give up more than one run in an outing so far this season.
For the second half of the doubleheader, the Mallards will send Matt Horkey (UNC-Charlotte) to the bump. Horkey has made four starts this season and holds a 2-1 record. In 21.1 innings pitched, Horkey has compiled a 2.95 ERA and has struck out 13 while walking only five. Horkey earned a win in his last outing against the Kalamazoo Growlers on June 27th at Warner Park.
The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond tomorrow for an Independence Day matchup with the Kingfish. The game is the final matchup of the four-game series. Following the game, the Mallards will host fireworks and a performance by The Ryan McGrath Band.
