Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards (1-3,20-19) return to Warner Park today for a matchup with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (2-2,18-22). The Mallards are coming off of a 1-3 road trip in Michigan and will look to regain momentum and battle back in the Northwoods League South Division.
Last night, the Mallards pulled off a slim 2-1 victory over the Battle Creek Bombers. The Madison pitching staff did a brilliant job of limiting Bomber batters. Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard) allowed one run in five innings of work and Davis Moore (Fresno State) and Dom Savino (Albany) both kept Battle Creek off of the scoreboard. Madison hurlers will look to build off of last night’s performances.
Tonight, the Mallards will turn to starter Matt Horkey (Jacksonville). Horkey has made five starts this season and has a 3.07 ERA and a 2-1 record. Horkey has done a great job of getting ahead of batters and commanding the strike zone as he has struck out 17 while walking only five. In his last outing, Horkey went five innings and allowed only two runs while striking out four.
Set to oppose Horkey is Dock Spiders starter Zach Kesterson. Kesterson has pitched in eleven games this season and owns a 6.75 ERA. He has tossed 25.1, all coming out of the bullpen. The Mallards will look to put pressure on Kesterson as he makes his first start of the season.
In last night’s ballgame, Madison left fielder Zac Taylor (Illinois) tallied four hits. Taylor has been on fire lately as he is batting .516 over his last ten games. During that span, his 16 hits and five RBI lead all Madison batters. Madison shortstop Cole Daily (Notre Dame) tallied a pair of hits last night and has continued to lead the Mallards offense. Daily leads the NWL in hits this season with 55 and has now reached base in 26 straight games.
David Vinsky (Northwood), who joined the Mallards yesterday, will make his Warner Park Debut tonight. Vinsky, who tore up Division II baseball this spring, had a pair of hits in his first game last night. Vinsky will be primarily slotted at first base after Angel Camacho was shut down due to an injury.
First pitch tonight at Warner Park is scheduled for 4:05 PM and gates are set to open at 2:30 PM. Today’s game features Juggling Josh Horton presented by the Payroll Company. Tonight is also Superhero Night featuring the Madison Police vs. Fire Home Plate Heroes softball game that will be played prior to the ballgame.
