Madison, Wis. – Last night, the Madison Mallards (4-5, 23-21) were defeated by the Lakeshore Chinooks (6-3, 24-20), 8-4 after the Chinooks pulled away in the game’s late innings. The Mallards were able to come within one run after being down 5-2, but a three run eighth for Lakeshore padded the lead enough to seal their victory.
Tonight, Madison heads to Lakeshore for game two of the series. Madison’s pitching staff will look to hold down the explosive Chinooks offense. Madison will turn to Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard) to the mound to try escape the series with a split. In Rosenblum-Larson’s seven starts he has tossed 37.1 innings with a 1.20 ERA. This will be his first face off with Lakeshore after allowing one run in five innings pitched to Battle Creek in his last appearance.
The Madison offense will look to build on the power they displayed last night when Cole Daily (Notre Dame) and Doran Turchin (Illinois) both went yard. Daily’s leadoff home run was his first of the season and it was Turchin’s ninth, a team best. Overall, Madison’s offense worked quality at bats last night and will hope to find more fortune on balls in play in tonight’s game.
Game Notes
Chasing the Chinooks
Overall this season, the Mallards are 2-3 against Lakeshore. After being swept by the Chinooks in late May, the Mallards bounced back and took two from Lakeshore in June. Madison will look to avoid the sweep tonight at Kapco Park.
Heatin’ Up
Recently, Madison infielder Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) has found a groove at the plate after tallying two hits last night. Armstrong now has hit in three of his last four games and owns a .404 on base percentage.
Spectacular Simon
2017 NWL All-Star Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard) has been lights out this season for the Mallards. He has made seven starts and owns 1.20 ERA and has struck out 42 while walking only eight. Rosenblum-Larson has yet to give up multiple runs in a start this season and has held batters to a miniscule .191 batting average. Also, Rosenblum-Larson has allowed just three hits in each of his last six starts.
Tonight’s game is set to get underway at 6:35 PM at Kapco Park. The Mallards return home on Sunday, July 16th for a matchup with the Kenosha Kingfish. For live updates of tonight’s game, check out @MadisonMallards on Twitter and listen live on The Zone 1670AM or 106.7FM WOZN.
