Earlier today the Northwoods League announced the 2017 Major League Dreams Showcase rosters and seven Madison Mallards will be participating in the event. The showcase will be held at Warner Park on Tuesday, August 8th.
The annual showcase will consist of a double-header featuring the top players from the NWL that were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball scouts. The players will participate in a day of workouts in front of scouts that will be followed by the double-header. Game one is scheduled to start at 4:05 PM and game two will get underway around 7:35 PM.
The seven Mallards players selected will play in the 7:35 game and Field Manager Donnie Scott and his assistants will make up the coaching staff for the home team. Mallards all-star shortstop Cole Daily (Notre Dame), who leads the NWL in hits (73) and runs (59) will represent the Mallards in the ballgame. Daily has played in 51 games this summer and owns a phenomenal .348 batting average.
University of Illinois outfielders Doran Turchin and Zac Taylor also made the cut. Turchin, a 2017 NWL all-star is batting .287 through 42 games with Madison and has a team-leading ten home runs. Turchin has knocked in 42 runs and drawn 41 walks this season. Taylor has been extremely hot at the plate lately and has raised his average up to .347. Taylor has hit home runs in back-to-back games and now has a total of five this summer.
The Mallards will also be represented by four pitchers as Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard), Tyler Dyson (Florida), Nate Brown (Florida), and Luke Shilling (Illinois) all made the cut for the showcase.
Rosenblum-Larson has had a phenomenal season with the Mallards as he holds a 1.16 ERA through nine starts this summer. The 2017 all-star has tossed 46.1 innings and has tallied 53 strikeouts while issuing only 11 walks. Rosenblum-Larson has not allowed multiple earned runs in any of his starts this season.
University of Florida hurlers Tyler Dyson and Nate Brown have also had impressive summers with the Mallards. Dyson has made three starts and owns a 2-0 record and a 1.20 ERA. Dyson has pitched 15.0 innings and has racked up 14 punchouts. Brown has also made three starts this summer and holds a 2.57 ERA. Brown has struck out 17 in 14.0 innings of work and has only issued seven walks.
Finally, Illinois flame thrower Luke Shilling will also be participating in the showcase. Shilling, who recently arrived in Madison, has only tossed one inning for the Mallards this summer but has tallied two strikeouts.
