The Madison Mallards have announced the addition of a pair of pitchers for the 2018 season. The Mallards added righties Leon Hunter (North Carolina A&T) and Cole O’Connor (Dartmouth). Both pitchers will head to the Duck Pond with plenty of collegiate experience and will contribute to a deep Madison pitching staff.
Hunter, a 6-foot-3 junior from Garner, North Carolina, has been a consistent innings-eater for the Aggies at N.C. A&T during his first two seasons. In 2017, Hunter made 15 appearances and held a 2.95 ERA through 21.1 innings on the bump. He allowed only 6 extra base hits and allowed opposing batters to hit only .241 against him. Hunter will give the Mallards another experienced option on the mound.
O’Connor, a 6-foot-4 junior out of Bedford, Massachusetts, is another lengthy righty. O’Connor has been primarily used as a starter during his first two seasons with the Big Green. The junior has made 17 starts and holds a career 4-4 record while posting a 3.74 ERA. O’Connor has shown the ability to control the strike zone as he has racked up 52 career strikeouts and has issued only 25 free passes.
Hunter and O’Connor join an experienced Mallards pitching staff that features many quality, veteran arms.
