Battle Creek, Mich. — The Madison Mallards (28-13, 0-5) never could get their offense going against the Bombers (20-20, 4-1), and dropped their fifth in a row to start the second half.

The Mallards only managed four hits this afternoon against Bombers starter Walter Talcott.

Turning Point

With a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Battle Creek broke the game open with three more runs to grab a 6-0 advantage. The Mallards loaded the bases with two out on three walks in the fifth inning, but could not deliver the big hit when they needed it.

Top Mallards

  • Jake Randa (NW Florida State) had two hits and made an outstanding running catch to rob a Bomber of extra bases
  • Trevor Schwecke (UW Milwaukee) delivered a two-out single for the only Mallards RBI
  • Turner French (St. Johns) worked out of two bases loaded jams, allowing one run in three relief innings
