Seven Mallards Chosen for Showcase

The Northwoods League’s best will be featured on August 7 at the Duck Pond

Madison, Wis. –  The Northwoods League announced the rosters for the 2018 Major League Dreams Showcase and seven Mallards have made the cut. Cal Greenfield, Trace Norkus, Carson Ragsdale, Tyler Plantier, Jake Randa, Trevor Schwecke and David Vinksy will all take part in the event at the Duck Pond on Tuesday, August 7. The annual Showcase will consist of a double-header featuring the top 100 players from the Northwoods League who were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball Scouts.  The players will participate in a day of workouts in front of scouts which will be followed by the double-header

 

Mallards catcher Cal Greenfield (Florida) will be featured on the visiting team in the first game that begins at 4:05 PM. Greenfield has four doubles this summer through 13 games and has scored six runs. Greenfield just concluded his freshman season at the University of Florida this spring.

 

Relief pitcher Carson Ragsdale(South Florida) has been named to the home team of the 7:35 PM game along with the rest of the featured Mallards players. Ragsdale has tossed 22.2 innings this summer and owns a 2.38 ERA while posting a 1-1 record. Ragsdale has accumulated 35 strikeouts while giving up only 14 hits.

 

Closer Trace Norkus (North Florida) has been dominant at the back end of the Madison bullpen this summer. Norkus has a 1.82 ERA through 24.2 innings this season and has earned a league-leading 13 saves. Norkus has totaled 32 strikeouts while allowing only five runs this summer.

 

Infielder Trevor Schwecke (UW-Milwaukee) has been named to the showcase after a consistent season at the plate. Schwecke has totaled 59 hits over 50 games and leads the Mallards with 17 stolen bases. Schwecke has tallied 26 RBIs and has 16 extra base hits this season.

 

Third baseman Tyler Plantier (Richmond) has been a key run producer in the Madison lineup all summer, crushing a division-leading 13 home runs and totaling 46 RBIs. Plantier is currently hitting .306 and has a .555 slugging percentage. Plantier has drawn 32 walks this season and has played 55 games for the Mallards.

 

Outfielder Jake Randa (NW Florida State) has a team-high 70 hits this summer and leads the NWL with 22 doubles. Randa currently holds a .323 batting average and has knocked in 43 runs this summer while batting in the middle of the Mallards lineup every night. Randa has played all over the field, seeing time at right field, centerfield and first base.

 

Infielder David Vinsky (Northwood) has accumulated a division-high 229 at bats this summer and currently holds a .297 batting average. VInsky has totaled 18 extra base hits and has knocked in 38 runs while striking out only 32 times. Vinsky holds a .358 OBP and has been a consistent force in the Madison lineup all summer.
