The Madison Mallards hammered 19 hits to explode on offense yesterday in a 12-6 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks to earn their fourth consecutive sweep. The win upgraded the Mallards to a perfect 8-0 start in 2019. This is the programs best start in franchise history and makes Madison the only remaining undefeated team in the Northwoods League.
Last night, five Mallards had a multi-hit day to propel the team to victory. Drew Benefield (Louisville) and Logan Michaels (Virginia) led the pack with four hits each. Impressively, the Mallards secured four doubles, two home runs and five different batters recorded an RBI.
Tonight, the Mallards return home to Warner Park for a four-game home stand, starting with a competition against the Green Bay Booyah. Green Bay is currently tied with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders and Wisconsin Woodchucks for second place in the Great Lakes West division with a 5-3 record.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05, and LHP Aiden Tyrell (Notre Dame) has been named the starting pitcher for the Mallards. Tyrell is making his second start at the Duck Pond, his first was on May 29 against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. In his debut for the Mallards he powered through five innings, earning four strikeouts, a 1.80 ERA and the win.
