The Madison Mallards (8-1) suffered their first loss of the season at home after being defeated 10-2 by in-state rival, the Green Bay Booyah (6-3).
The Green Bay bats were loud right from the start to rattle the Mallards. In the top of the first, Green Bay scored four runs off of one walk and back-to-back home runs. Nick Kreutzer (Arkansas Pine Bluff) hit a two-run home run followed by a solo home run hit by Blaise Maris (Florida Tech).
Unable to quickly respond, the Mallard bats were quiet until the seventh inning. Drew Benefield (Louisville) hammered a two-run home run to put the Mallards on the board, trailing 9-2.
Starting pitcher for Green Bay, Garrett Martin (Marian) dominated through the Mallards lineup striking out six batters through seven innings. Green Bay added one more run in the ninth inning, making the final score 10-2.
Turning Point
Ty Herrenbruck (Pittsburg State) hit the third home run of the game to open a 6-0 Green Bay lead. Though the Mallards scored in the bottom of the seventh, they were unable to match Green Bay’s multiple outburst on offense.
