After scoring a season-high 10 runs on Friday night in Wausau against the Woodchucks, the Madison Mallards hosted the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders for the first time this season and came away with a 5-1 loss.
The Dock Spiders got off to a good start, scoring two runs in the second inning off of Mallards starter Ryan Lauk (Wagner). They had four hits in the inning including an RBI-single from Kyte McDonald (Mississippi State).
The Mallards then made it a one-run game in the third inning on an RBI-double from Alex Iadiernia (Elon). It was one of Iadisernia’s two hits and it scored Cam Frederick (Creighton) from third who also had two hits on the night.
Ryan Lauk exited the game with two runners on in the 5th inning, and the Mallards got out of that jam with pitcher Matt Haley (New Mexico) and a back-pick out at third base from catcher Drake Baldwin (Missouri State).
In the top of the ninth the Dock Spiders tacked on two more runs to go up 5-1, including a solo home run from Victor Scott (West Virginia).
The Mallards had seven hits on the night compared to 14 for the Dock Spiders. This was the first of a four-game set between Fond Du Lac and Madison with the next two games set to be played in Fond Du Lac before both teams return to Madison on Tuesday night.
Reagan Klawiter (Madison College) will pitch for the Mallards tomorrow with Ernie Day (Iowa Western) set to pitch for the Ducks on Monday night.
