After snapping a three-game losing streak last night in Wausau against the Woodchucks, the Madison Mallards (8-10) are returning to the Duck Pond at Warner Park for their first matchup against the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders (10-8) this season.

Despite the three consecutive losses prior to last night’s win, the Mallards are starting to swing the bats well. They’ve scored 23 runs over their last three games including three home runs and a season-high 10 runs last night.

Those three home runs came off the bats of Cam Cratic (Missouri State) who won NWL player of the night on Wednesday, JT Benson (Louisville) with a two-run, go-ahead bomb on Thursday and Matt Scannell (Princeton) who hit a three-run shot on Friday.

Tonight the Mallards will send opening day starter Ryan Lauk (Wagner) to the mound for his fourth start of the season. Lauk has pitched 16.1 innings across three starts this season and has a 4.41 ERA. He’s also picked up 15 strikeouts in his three starts.

The Dock Spiders will be sending Ryan Loutos (Washington-St. Louis) to the mound for his first start of the season. Loutos is a returner to Fond Du Lac, pitching 20 innings for the team in 2020 across four starts and eight appearances. He had a 6.75 ERA with 19 strikeouts.

The Dock Spiders are coming into this series off of a split with the Green Bay Booyah. They won 12-6 yesterday and are now tied for third in the Great Lakes West division. The Mallards are currently in sixth place, but still just 2.5 games back of first.

Tonight’s game is the first of what will be a four-game series with Fond Du Lac. After tonight’s 6:35 p.m. first pitch, the next two will be at Herr-Baker field in Fond Du Lac before both teams return to Madison on Tuesday to close out the series.
