Following a tight 6-5 loss in Fond Du Lac, the Dock Spiders and Madison Mallards came back to Madison to close out their four game series with the Mallards coming out on top by a final of 5-0.
The Mallards scored a run right away in the first inning on a solo home run from Alex Iadisernia (Elon). It was Iadiernia’s third home run on the season and his second during this series with the Dock Spiders.
JT Benson (Louisville) then drove home an RBI single in the second inning before the Mallards scored two in the third inning on a walk and four consecutive singles.
Mallards starter Andrew Neu (UW-Milwaukee) gave his best effort of the season on the mound, pitching six shutout innings with only three hits allowed and three strikeouts, picking up the win. Neu’s UW-Milwaukee teammate Riley Frey picked up the loss for the Dock Spiders.
The Ducks tacked on their fifth run in the seventh inning when Bryant Shellenbarger (Akron) hit his second RBI-single of the game.
Kade Lancour (UW-Whitewater) and Theo Denlinger (Bradley) threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close the game and the win out for the Mallards, who now sit at 9-13 on the season.
This was the finale of a four game set with Fond Du Lac which the Mallards lost in total 3-1. Tomorrow, the Mallards will head to Lakeshore to play a doubleheader against the Chinooks with first pitch times scheduled for 11:35 a.m. and 6:35 p.m.
